The Public Relations Office of the Taliban has issued a written directive to the Ministry of Transport, instructing the renaming of airports in three provinces of the country.
The document from the Taliban’s office, published on Thursday, December 21, reveals that the cabinet of this group has issued this directive in various meetings throughout this month.
According to this directive, the name of Abdul Ali Mazari Airport in Bamyan has been changed to “Bamyan Airport,” Abdul Karim Khalili Airport to “Daikundi Airport,” and General Mahiuddin Ghori Airport to “Sultan Ghiyasuddin Ghori Airport.”
The Taliban’s cabinet has stated in the document that these changes were made based on the Ministry of Transport’s request.
Renaming places by the Taliban is not a new practice. Previously, this group changed the names of cities, places, roads, schools, and intersections in the capital and some provinces, which were previously named after various personalities.
Last year, the Taliban changed the name of the city of Charikar to “Imam Abu Hanifa,” a move that garnered significant reactions.
