Local sources in Logar province say the Taliban’s Department of Education has shut down around 130 community-based educational classes for children in the province. Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Monday, May 12, 2025, that these classes had been operating with financial support from the organization “WAIFA.”
According to the sources, approximately 3,091 boys and girls up to the fifth grade were studying in these classes. However, the Taliban’s Department of Education collected all the equipment today and closed down the classes. The sources added that these classes had been active in the Khoshi, Azra, and Mohammad Agha districts of Logar province.
According to the sources, the closure of these classes has led to the unemployment of dozens of teachers in the province and deprived hundreds of children of education. The decision has sparked concerns among locals about the increasing educational gap and lack of access to basic schooling for children in rural areas.
This comes as local sources in Paktika province also report that the Taliban have shut down 267 community-based educational classes for young girls in the province and transferred their equipment to jihadist madrasas. Since regaining control of Afghanistan, the Taliban have barred girls above the sixth grade from attending school and have also closed universities to female students.
