Alongside the forced confession of Mahdi Ansari, a reporter for Afghan News Agency detained by the Taliban, his relatives say his health condition in the group’s prison has become critical.
Sources on Thursday, October 2, 2025, said that Ansari’s physical and mental health inside Taliban detention is deteriorating.
The Taliban’s Intelligence Directorate has extracted a forced confession from him in the form of a video, accusing him of collaborating with Afghanistan’s exiled media outlets.
On October 5, 2024, Taliban intelligence forces arrested Ansari in the Pul-e-Khoshk area of Dasht-e-Barchi, Kabul.
The group has sentenced him to one and a half years in prison.
According to the Afghanistan Journalists Center, around 10 journalists are currently being held in Taliban prisons.
