Tens of thousands of people took to the streets across Spain to protest the country’s housing crisis.
Reuters reported on Saturday night, October 3, that some protesters held placards calling for a nationwide strike.
The protests came after Spain’s parliament rejected proposed measures on Friday aimed at addressing public anger over the forced eviction of an 87-year-old woman from her home in Madrid and other housing-related issues.
Meanwhile, protesters clashed with police in Valencia, where officers used plastic bullets and tear gas to disperse the crowd.
However, demonstrations in 50 cities across Spain were held peacefully. The Spanish government said around 70,000 people took part in Saturday’s demonstration in Madrid.
