The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) says it has established 9.8 megawatts of solar power capacity in Afghanistan over the past nearly four years.
The agency said on Wednesday, October 7, that the capacity was established from January 2023 to September 2026 through the Solar Energy for Sustainable Economic and Human Development in Afghanistan (SESEHA) programme.
According to the agency, the project has provided clean and reliable energy to 800 health and educational facilities across Afghanistan.
The agency added that these facilities include 621 schools, 154 health centers, 18 district hospitals and seven provincial hospitals.
Afghanistan faces a shortage of and limited access to electricity, particularly in remote areas. Solar energy is considered one of the solutions for providing electricity to health and educational facilities in the country.
