United Nations experts have expressed concern that the continued ban on Afghan women entering the organization’s offices and compounds poses a serious obstacle to the delivery of vital services and constitutes a clear violation of women’s rights.
The organization reported on Tuesday, March 31, that since September 2025, the Taliban have barred Afghan women, including UN staff, from entering the organization’s offices.
The experts stated: “Preventing women from entering UN offices is a direct attack on women’s rights, including their right to work.”
They emphasized that the consequences of this ban are immediate and severe, with vital assistance, particularly in response to natural disasters and humanitarian operations, being affected, while women and girls bear the greatest burden.
The organization stressed the need for a united and principled international response and called on all UN agencies, funds, and programs operating in Afghanistan to adopt a common position.
The experts also urged the UN Secretary-General to increase diplomatic pressure on the Taliban to lift these restrictions as soon as possible.
