The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) said in a report that floods several weeks ago in eastern parts of Afghanistan disrupted access to education for 11,622 students.
On Sunday, August 23, UNICEF shared a report on its X page that was published three days earlier and addressed the situation of people affected by floods in the eastern regions.
According to the report, the floods damaged a total of 33 schools in these areas, including perimeter walls, classrooms and retaining walls.
UNICEF said that flash floods in central and eastern areas destroyed a total of 316 homes and affected more than 2,000 people.
Meanwhile, the organization also warned of the dangers posed by the displacement of mines and unexploded ordnance following the floods.
However, the United Nations Children’s Fund emphasized that health services and the provision of safe drinking water continue in flood-affected areas.
