Mike Waltz, the US representative to the United Nations, has said that Washington rejected Iran’s proposal because Tehran had demanded the lifting of sanctions.
Al Jazeera reported on Monday, September 28, that Iran’s proposal included a request for access to billions of dollars in the country’s frozen assets.
According to the report, Waltz said the sanctions against Iran are not solely US sanctions, but international sanctions.
He added that it is important to remember that the sanctions reflect the international community’s position toward Iran.
Waltz said: “Over the past 20 years, not one or two, but seven UN Security Council resolutions have been issued emphasizing that Iran cannot and should not have a nuclear weapons program.”
This comes as Iran recently submitted a proposal to the United States to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days. The proposal was rejected by the US.
