US Senator Brian Schatz has criticized recent remarks by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about the war with Iran, following praise for Netanyahu from US President Donald Trump.
Al Jazeera reported early Monday, October 19, that the senator described Netanyahu’s comments as insulting to Americans.
According to the report, Netanyahu thanked President Trump for his support in a message, saying, “Israel has never had a better friend in the White House.”
However, Schatz said: “Netanyahu speaking directly to Americans on camera to justify this war and blame us for being upset about gas prices is an extremely disrespectful and deeply offensive closing message.”
The remarks come as the US-Israeli war against Iran has contributed to declining public approval of both leaders, with their popularity falling to its lowest levels among the Israeli and American public.
