A cultural and literary event marking National Uzbek Language Day was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with the participation of cultural figures, artists, poets, and members of the Afghan community living in the United States.
The event was held on Sunday, October 18, at the initiative of the Timur Cultural and Social Association. It aimed to preserve the Uzbek language, introduce the cultural and literary heritage of Afghanistan’s Uzbek community, and pass cultural values on to future generations.
Professor Dr. Nazif Shahrani of Indiana University delivered a speech on the history and status of Uzbeks and Turkmen in Afghanistan, as well as the role of the Uzbek language in preserving historical and cultural identity.
Several artists, including Farhad Darya, Khair Mohammad Chawosh, and Sayed Kabir Kamal, also performed songs during the musical segment of the event.
The program also featured poetry recitations, literary activities for children, and an exhibition of traditional Uzbek food and clothing.
At the end of the ceremony, artists, collaborators, and active members of the Timur Cultural and Social Association were recognized for their contributions to cultural and social activities.
