The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that a total of 170 deaths related to acute respiratory illnesses have been recorded in Afghanistan.
The organization said in a report published on Sunday, September 27, that a total of 64,506 cases of acute respiratory illnesses had been reported in Afghanistan.
According to the report, the number of recorded respiratory illness cases had decreased by 17.4 percent compared with July.
The WHO also reported 1,423 suspected measles cases and seven deaths related to the disease.
This figure also represents a 44.5 percent decrease compared with July, when 2,562 suspected measles cases and nine deaths were reported.
This comes as Afghanistan faces widespread challenges in the health sector and limited access to healthcare services for many people, while respiratory illnesses remain among the major health concerns in the country.
