Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, has said that Ukrainian forces will carry out preemptive strikes against facilities and sites used by Russia to continue the war.
In his nightly address on Wednesday, June 24, Zelenskyy said he had instructed intelligence agencies and the military to take preemptive action against facilities used by Russia to expand its military operations.
He made these remarks as Ukraine has intensified its attacks on Russian energy infrastructure and is seeking to pressure Moscow into negotiations.
According to reports, Ukrainian drones on Wednesday cut off electricity in the largest city in Russian-controlled Crimea and targeted several facilities in central and southern Russia.
Industrial sources also said that a Moscow oil refinery will remain out of operation for at least six months due to extensive damage caused by Ukrainian drone strikes.
Meanwhile, official Russian data shows that production of petroleum products and coke fell by 13.5 percent in May compared to the same period last year.
Russia has not published much of its oil production and export data since the start of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
