Following the killing of 11 Pakistani soldiers in a car bomb attack in Bajaur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has summoned the Taliban’s deputy ambassador in Islamabad.
The Express Tribune reported on Thursday, February 19, that Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry conveyed its strong protest to the Taliban’s deputy envoy in the capital.
Pakistan strongly condemned the attack and stressed that such incidents carry serious consequences for regional security.
Tahir Andrabi, spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, expressed Islamabad’s deep concern over the continued operations of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), whose leadership is said to be based in Afghanistan and operating from Afghan territory with impunity.
The ministry said Pakistan has repeatedly received assurances from the Afghan Taliban, but that “no significant or tangible action” has been taken to curb these activities.
Pakistan’s Defense Minister, Khawaja Asif, warned last night that airstrikes inside Afghanistan would be carried out if deemed necessary.
At least 11 Pakistani soldiers and 12 TTP fighters were killed on Monday in Bajaur district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, following a car bomb attack and subsequent clashes.
