A federal court in New York has temporarily halted the deportation of more than 150 Afghan migrants from the United States.
ABC News reported on Tuesday, November 3, that Valerie Caproni, a US District Court judge in New York, issued the temporary order.
According to the report, the order remains in effect until Saturday, November 7.
US government lawyers also confirmed in court that no flights to deport the migrants to Afghanistan or Pakistan had been scheduled by the end of the week.
More than 150 Afghan migrants were previously due to be deported from the United States and transferred to Pakistan, as Washington has no diplomatic relations with Afghanistan following the Taliban’s takeover of the country.
