Nasir Ahmad Andisha, Afghanistan’s ambassador to Switzerland, says concerns over the forced deportation of Afghan migrants and the challenges facing returnees were highlighted at a meeting of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

In a post on X on Friday, October 30, Andisha said the issues were raised in a statement delivered by Afghanistan’s delegation at the 39th session of the IOM Standing Committee on Programmes and Finance in Geneva.

The Afghan ambassador to Switzerland said Afghanistan is among the priorities in the IOM’s budget for this year.

He added that the Taliban’s restrictions on women’s and girls’ access to education and employment were also identified as major obstacles to economic growth, social recovery, and the reintegration of migrants.

The meeting called on neighboring and regional countries to respect the rights and human dignity of Afghan migrants and refugees.

Andisha also said the meeting emphasized the need for adequate funding and the development of long-term programs to support migrants.
