Qatari mediators have presented Tehran with a new draft proposal to end the war between Iran, the United States and Israel. The plan includes a seven-day timeline for de-escalation and confidence-building measures among the parties.
Reuters reported on Wednesday, October 28, that the draft was presented to Iran on Sunday and is currently under review by Tehran. Iran may respond to the proposal by the end of the week.
Qatar and Pakistan are leading mediation efforts to end the war, which has affected global shipping and oil supplies and spread to Saudi Arabia and Yemen.
Under the proposal, Iran and the United States would take confidence-building measures over a seven-day period, while several countries would act as guarantors of the agreement’s implementation.
However, a senior Iranian official said Qatar had put forward only “unacceptable ideas,” adding that these were not formal proposals and that Tehran’s position on its nuclear program had not changed.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran remained in contact with mediators and was giving diplomatic efforts to end the war an opportunity.
