The Afghanistan Freedom Front has accused the Taliban of assassinating General Ekramuddin Saree, the former police chief of Takhar province, and Mohammad Amin Almas in Iran, and has spoken of retaliating for their killings.

In a statement issued on Thursday, December 25, the Afghanistan Freedom Front described the killing of the two former military officers as a major loss.

According to the Freedom Front, the Taliban view former military personnel as a potential threat and spare no effort to eliminate them.

The Freedom Front warned that it would respond to the Taliban’s actions at an appropriate time.

The group also called on the Iranian government to take effective measures to investigate the killings and to protect former Afghan military personnel.

General Ekramuddin served as police chief of Takhar and Baghlan provinces under the former government and fled to Iran after the Taliban’s takeover.

Sources say that Mr. Saree had recently been responsible for an office handling complaints and coordinating former military personnel.

Sources further add that Mohammad Amin Almas was also killed alongside General Ekramuddin.

According to findings by Hasht-e Subh Daily, the Taliban have killed around 110 former military personnel from 2023 to mid-2025.
