A four-year-old child named Sultan has died after drowning in a water reservoir in Ghazni province.

The Taliban’s provincial police command said on Saturday, October 17, that the incident occurred in the Khushkabi area of Ajristan district.

According to the police command, the child drowned on Friday afternoon while playing in the water near his home.

Meanwhile, the Taliban’s disaster management authority said on the occasion of World Drowning Prevention Day that 148 people had died by drowning in rivers across the country over the past year.

According to the Taliban, the victims included 66 children, 11 women and 71 men. Four other people remained missing at the time the report was published.
