Amnesty International has reported that at least 40 people were killed when armed attackers raided a village in northeastern Nigeria.
Reuters reported on Saturday night, October 24, citing a statement issued by Amnesty International.
According to the report, the deadly attack took place on Thursday afternoon in Taraba State, northeastern Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Nigerian police said in a statement on Friday that a large group of armed men had attacked the village of Binari.
According to police, the attackers entered the village while firing heavily and looted food supplies from local shops.
Amnesty International said that although police had initially confirmed the deaths of 10 people, additional bodies were discovered later on Saturday.
Northern Nigeria has seen an increase in attacks by heavily armed criminal gangs, locally known as “bandits.” These groups raid villages, abduct residents for ransom and steal livestock.
