Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Afghanistan, has expressed concern over the continued detention of six staff members of the Women’s and Children’s Rights Research Organization in Kabul and called for their immediate release.
Bennett wrote on X on Friday, August 7, that 21 days had passed since the individuals were detained, but no charges had yet been brought against them in court.
He said the six staff members had been “arbitrarily” detained and expressed serious concern about their situation.
The UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Afghanistan did not provide further details about the detainees.
According to published reports, the Taliban recently raided the office of the Women’s and Children’s Rights Research Organization in Kabul, detained six of its staff members, and confiscated its equipment and other materials.
