US Central Command (CENTCOM) has announced that it has diverted 68 commercial vessels in the waters of the Gulf of Oman as part of its ongoing maritime blockade of Iran.
CENTCOM said in a post on X early Saturday, August 22, that the maritime blockade of Iran is continuing with the use of US Navy warships.
The US military said that, in addition to diverting 68 commercial vessels, it had disabled three ships and inspected two others to ensure compliance with the maritime blockade.
Meanwhile, tensions between Iran and the United States over control of the Strait of Hormuz continue, with Tehran saying that the continuation of the maritime blockade would be considered a continuation of the war.
However, it remains unclear whether Washington and Tehran will reach an agreement in the near future to end tensions in the Persian Gulf.
