US Central Command (CENTCOM) has said the situation around Iran’s Qeshm Island is “calm” following reports by Iranian sources of explosions in the area.
Al Jazeera reported early Saturday, November 7, citing a CENTCOM official, that the command had also heard reports of the explosions.
The official said he could not comment further on the matter.
He added that CENTCOM would issue a statement on Iran on Saturday morning but declined to disclose its contents.
Earlier, Iranian media reported hearing explosions and claimed that two missiles had struck Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, tensions between Iranian forces and the US military in the region have escalated in recent days.
