Maulana Fazal Ur Rehman, leader of Pakistan’s Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) party, has offered to mediate between Pakistan and the Taliban to help ease rising tensions between the two sides.

Speaking at a press conference at the Islamabad Convention Center on Tuesday, October 14, Fazal Ur Rehman said his party had previously played a role in de-escalating tensions between the two countries and is once again prepared to act as a mediator.

He added that he has maintained regular contact with Taliban leaders and that his goal is to resolve disputes through dialogue and mutual understanding.

The JUI-F leader further stressed that after achieving a ceasefire between the two sides, there should now be a “verbal ceasefire” to prevent further escalation and to ensure that the situation moves toward calm rather than hostility.
