Following the Taliban’s new restrictions requiring women to wear burqas, the group has arrested a female doctor in Herat province.
Sources told Hasht-e Subh Daily on Monday, November 10, that the Taliban detained Shabnam Fazli, a general surgeon at Herat Regional Hospital.
Her husband, Qudus Khatibi, confirmed her arrest, saying that the Taliban took his wife into custody at the entrance of the Herat hospital.
Meanwhile, sources report that many women have been denied access to healthcare services for not wearing burqas.
For the past week, the Taliban have barred women without burqas from entering government offices in Herat.
The group has also ordered all female teachers in the province to attend their classes wearing burqas.
