The Taliban have announced that 207 families comprising 945 people were returned to Afghanistan yesterday through various border crossings.
Hamdullah Fitrat, the Taliban deputy spokesman, said in a statement on Monday, September 21, that 68 families comprising 347 people entered Afghanistan through the Torkham border alone.
According to the statement, 31 families returned through the Spin Boldak border, 95 families through the Nimroz border, and 13 families through the Islam Qala border in Herat.
The returns come as Afghanistan faces economic, social and political crises, while humanitarian organizations have warned of difficulties in meeting the basic needs of returning families.
As the number of returnees increases, the need for shelter, food, healthcare and livelihood opportunities for returning families remains a major challenge facing Afghanistan.
