U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has described a recent Washington Post report about U.S. military casualties in the war with Iran as “an outright lie” and called the newspaper worse than Iranian state media.
Hegseth wrote on his X account early Saturday, September 19, that the newspaper’s report about the failure to accurately disclose the number of U.S. military casualties in the war with Iran was “disgusting and fabricated.”
This comes after The Washington Post reported recently that the number of U.S. military casualties in the war with Iran was at least four higher than the figure announced by the Pentagon.
The report cited statements from five Pentagon officials regarding casualties among U.S. military personnel and service members.
Meanwhile, Iranian officials also claim that U.S. military casualties resulting from Iranian missile attacks on U.S. bases in countries across the region are higher than the figures announced by the Pentagon.
