Unknown gunmen have reportedly targeted and killed a former military officer in Paktika, according to local sources. The incident occurred in the city of Sharana, the center of the province.
The former military officer, identified as Fazl, was shot by unidentified gunmen on motorcycles on Monday, July 10th.
Fazl had served in the previous government as a police officer. After the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan, he sought refuge in Iran and recently returned to the country.
While the Taliban have not commented on similar incidents in the past, it is believed that their fighters are responsible for targeting former military personnel.
Just a few days ago, Badruddin Haidari, the former police commander of Back-Khil district in the same province, was also subjected to a barrage of gunfire during a kangaroo court held by the Taliban.
