Hanna Neumann, a member of the European Parliament, has said that the “Taliban criminal code” is pushing women toward enslavement.
In a video message on Wednesday, February 25, Neumann stated that speaking out, leaving home, and pursuing education are all considered crimes by the Taliban.
According to Neumann, these “crimes” are punished through flogging and imprisonment of women.
She described the Taliban’s actions against women as gender apartheid and said the European Union should formally recognize it.
Neumann emphasized that gender apartheid must be legislated as a crime against humanity.
The European lawmaker also stressed that silence does not equal neutrality; it equates to complicity.
This comes as the Taliban have legalized the beating of women by their husbands under a new “law.”
