Naim Qassem, Secretary-General of Lebanon’s Hezbollah, has said that direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel would bring nothing to the country except “shame, humiliation, disappointment and repeated concessions.”
Qassem made the remarks on Monday, August 3, in a televised speech marking the 40th day after the death of Imam Hussein and the conclusion of the Ashura commemorations.
He also criticized the role of Lebanese President Joseph Aoun in the process, claiming that the Lebanese government “has served Israel instead of helping Lebanon.”
The Hezbollah secretary-general concluded by emphasizing that Lebanon is “united, cohesive and indivisible,” adding that an attack on southern Lebanon would be considered an attack on the entire country.
