The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) say Pakistani authorities detained 517 Afghan nationals over the course of one week.

In a joint report released on Friday, October 23, the two agencies said the arrests took place between October 11 and 17 in Balochistan, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

During this period, 83 percent of those detained had no documentation, nine percent held Afghan Citizen Cards (ACC), and eight percent had Proof of Registration (PoR) cards.

The report added that 3,883 Afghan nationals returned to Afghanistan through the Torkham, Chaman, and Bahramcha crossings during the same week. Of these, 499 were forcibly deported.

According to the two agencies, approximately 2.744 million Afghan nationals returned from Pakistan to Afghanistan between September 15, 2023, and October 17, 2026.
