Local sources in Badakhshan province report that one Taliban member has been arrested following escalating internal disputes within the group.
Sources told Hasht-e Subh Daily on Saturday, October 25, that the Taliban detained Amauddin Karimi, one of their members, from the Abjam village in Ragh district.
According to the sources, the arrest took place after recent tensions and clashes between Pashtun and Uzbek Taliban fighters in the district.
They added that Karimi was detained for allegedly mocking Tajik members of the Taliban.
However, Taliban officials claim that Amauddin Karimi was arrested under the order of the group’s military court on charges of “abuse of authority.”
Ethnic and factional disputes among Taliban fighters in Badakhshan have intensified in recent months and, in some cases, have led to armed confrontations.
