The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Afghanistan has said that it does not have any official WhatsApp account and has urged people not to be deceived by anyone.
On Tuesday, June 30, the IOM wrote on its X account that it is aware of individuals impersonating the organization and promising assistance in exchange for money.
The organization stated that all its services are completely free of charge and warned people not to provide money or personal information through unofficial channels.
The IOM also urged the public to contact its toll-free number if they receive any suspicious messages.
Efforts by people to migrate from Afghanistan due to insecurity, unemployment, and severe restrictions imposed by the Taliban have created widespread opportunities for exploitation.
