U.S. Vice President JD Vance has said that Ukraine should not be admitted to NATO and that Washington does not have a “formal alliance” with Kyiv.
The Russian state news agency TASS reported on Tuesday, October 20, that Vance said Ukraine is not a NATO member and that he does not believe it should become one.
The U.S. vice president also said that Ukraine should stop its attacks on Russian oil refineries.
U.S. President Donald Trump had previously criticised Ukraine’s attacks on Russian oil refineries.
Trump said the attacks harm the global energy market, including the U.S. market, and claimed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy does not care about these consequences.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had also said that Ukraine’s NATO membership is not currently under consideration and that Washington is focused on ending the war in Ukraine.
