Local sources in Nangarhar have reported that three children were killed after a mortar shell exploded in the province.
Sources in the province told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Wednesday, September 30, that the incident occurred the previous evening in the Zawa area of Khogyani district.
According to the sources, the incident occurred when the children were playing with a mortar shell they had found.
The sources added that the children were between seven and 10 years old.
Unexploded ordnance left behind from past wars in the country has repeatedly claimed civilian lives.
