The Taliban said that 255 families, comprising 1,755 people, were returned to Afghanistan through various border crossings the previous day.
Hamdullah Fitrat, the Taliban’s deputy spokesperson, said in a statement on Tuesday, September 1, that 263 families, comprising 1,363 people, entered Afghanistan through the Torkham border crossing.
According to the statement, 16 families returned through the Spin Boldak border crossing, 64 families through the Nimroz border crossing, and another 12 families through the Islam Qala border crossing.
This comes as the large-scale return and deportation of migrants has increased pressure on Afghanistan’s limited resources and fragile economy.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) recently said it is facing a severe funding shortage to assist returning migrants and people affected by natural disasters.
