According to health officials in Badakhshan, a province in north-eastern Afghanistan, nearly 700 positive cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in less than two months.
Health sources reported on May 15, that the number of COVID-19 positive cases has increased in recent months in Badakhshan.
Since the beginning of the year, healthcare institutions in Badakhshan have registered 5,342 suspected COVID-19 cases, of which 3,773 people have undergone sampling. After undergoing health tests, 696 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19.
Among those who have been infected, 358 are men and 338 are women. Health sources in Badakhshan have emphasized that no deaths from COVID-19 have been reported among the infected individuals, although the number of positive cases has increased.
The recorded data from suspected and infected individuals indicate that most of the positive cases have been reported in Fayzabad city, the center of Badakhshan, as well as in the districts of Baharak, Jirm, Tashkan, Darayim, and Ishkashem.
Despite the significant decrease in COVID-19 patient statistics globally, 30 people in Badakhshan have died from a disease similar to COVID-19 in the past year.
It is important to note that COVID-19 is a global pandemic that was first discovered in China in December 2019. According to reports, approximately 15 million people worldwide have died due to COVID-19, and millions of others have been infected.
