Non-Combatant Murder Spree Persists: Taliban Gun Down Resident of Maidan Wardak Province in Kabul

Jim Huylebroek/The New York Times

Reports from local sources detail a tragic incident in Kabul where the Taliban ruthlessly gunned down a young man.

According to reliable sources cited by the Hasht-e Subh Daily, the victim, identified as Elyas, was brutally gunned down by Taliban fighters on the evening of Tuesday, February 20, in the vicinity of Kabul’s sixth security district.

Elyas hailed from the Husay-e Dowum Bahsud district in Maidan Wardak province, and his funeral took place yesterday.

While the Taliban have asserted that Elyas took his own life, sources strongly indicate that he fell victim to Taliban violence.

It’s imperative to note that since their resurgence, the Taliban have perpetrated numerous killings across the nation, employing various pretexts.

Adding to this grim tally, on January 17 of this year, the Taliban claimed another life, targeting a former soldier in the Dasht-e Barchi area of Kabul city.
