Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has linked the perpetrators of Friday’s suicide attack in the country’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province to Afghanistan.
In a statement posted on X on Saturday night, September 19, the ministry said the attack was carried out by “the lowest of the Khawarij, with roots in Afghanistan.”
According to the statement, Pakistan’s ministry claimed that the presence of terrorist safe havens in Afghanistan, along with recruitment and support infrastructure, poses a direct threat to Pakistan’s security.
“These concerns have repeatedly been conveyed to the Taliban regime in Afghanistan and its intermediaries,” the statement said.
The Taliban, however, have repeatedly rejected Pakistan’s allegations that they support or shelter groups opposed to the Pakistani government.
The suicide bombing on Friday at a mosque inside a police facility in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killed at least 21 people and injured more than 80 others.
