Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, has urged the Houthis to refrain from provocative actions in the Red Sea during a UN Security Council meeting on the situation in the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
Dawn reported on Saturday, September 19, that the UN Security Council held a meeting on Friday to discuss the growing threats in the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
According to the report, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations reaffirmed his country’s “unwavering support” for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Saudi Arabia.
This comes a day after Pakistan’s military also announced the country’s unconditional support for Saudi Arabia.
However, the conflict between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis poses a serious challenge for Pakistan, which has signed a mutual defense pact with the kingdom.
