A group of photographers from Afghanistan has launched a new publication titled Bibin Photography Magazine, aimed at interpreting, analyzing, and promoting contemporary photography.
Mohib Ali, the magazine’s editor-in-chief, told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Thursday, May 2, 2025, that there is a lack of analytical content on photography in Afghanistan’s publishing landscape. He noted that Bibin was founded to address this gap and provide critical written reflections on photographic work.
According to Ali, Bibin is a newly established initiative that has so far published two issues in both Persian and English. Each issue features contributions from guest writers across disciplines such as art, philosophy, poetry, and other areas of thought, offering interpretations of the selected images.
The magazine curates 20 photographs per issue through an open submission call, showcasing works by photographers from Afghanistan and abroad. It is published quarterly in both print and digital formats.
Bibin is printed and distributed in Europe based on reader demand. Its editorial team operates voluntarily, united in the effort to draw attention to conceptual and artistic photography.
The launch of Bibin Photography Magazine comes at a time when the Taliban have banned photography of living beings in Afghanistan and have prohibited the publication and distribution of such images. Since their return to power, Afghanistan’s cultural and artistic sectors have faced severe and unprecedented suppression.
