Richard Lindsay, the United Kingdom’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, has expressed concern over the human rights situation in the country and called on the Taliban to respect the rights of all people of Afghanistan.
Lindsay said on Tuesday, March 31, referring to the latest United Nations report on Afghanistan, that no country can progress when half of its population is deprived of education, work, and participation in social life.
According to the latest report by the United Nations Human Rights Office, women and girls in Afghanistan have been excluded from public life and activities due to Taliban decrees and do not have access to their most basic rights.
Lindsay emphasized that every citizen of Afghanistan has the right to live freely and be protected from harassment and abuse, and he urged the Taliban to respect the rights of all citizens of the country.
This comes as human rights organizations have consistently called on the international community to support all citizens of the country, especially women in Afghanistan, and not to leave them alone in the current crisis
