Sima Bahous, Executive Director of UN Women, says placing women at the center of peacebuilding helps make peace agreements more durable and strengthens community resilience.
In a post on X on Tuesday, October 27, she said women’s leadership and their security are both essential to ensuring national and international security.
Emphasizing investment in women, peace and security, Bahous said such investment is necessary to protect people’s security and safeguard their rights.
Her remarks come as Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda, Deputy Executive Director of UN Women, has also expressed concern over the continued denial of education to Afghan girls.
She warned that Afghanistan is facing the world’s most severe women’s rights crisis.
Since the Taliban returned to power, women and girls in Afghanistan have faced widespread restrictions and have been excluded from many areas of public life.
