Local sources say that the body of a 19-year-old man who drowned in the “Sarhawz Water Dam” in the Pashtun Kot district of Faryab province has not yet been recovered.

Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Thursday, June 4, that the young man, named “Mehraban,” was a resident of Khwaja Paitakht village in Maimana city, the capital of Faryab province, and drowned on June 10.

According to the sources, efforts by local swimmers to find and recover his body have so far been unsuccessful.

The sources also said that a rescue team from the Taliban’s central fire and rescue department, equipped with necessary tools and equipment, has been dispatched from Kabul to Faryab to assist in the search and recovery operation.

Mehraban’s family has called on skilled swimmers and divers in the country to help recover their son’s body.

This comes after, a few days earlier, the Taliban reported that two brothers in Daikundi province had died after drowning.

During the Eid holidays as well, three people drowned in the Sayad River in Kapisa province, and three others drowned and lost their lives while swimming in a water reservoir in the Malistan district of Ghazni province.
