Local sources in Omid-e Sabz Township in western Kabul report that the forced eviction of residents from their homes is continuing and that Taliban officials are refusing to listen to their grievances.
Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Wednesday, October 7, that the Taliban are deliberately pursuing the eviction process in the township and have threatened residents with death if they protest.
According to the sources, at least 30 houses and apartments have been taken from their owners and vacated over the past two days, with Taliban families subsequently moved into the residential units.
The sources said that after property owners refused to pay the rent imposed by the Taliban, they were forcibly compelled to leave their homes.
Meanwhile, the Taliban’s Ministry of Justice released several residents and representatives of the township who had been detained after protesting the Taliban’s decision, following their commitment to vacate their homes.
The sources added that despite repeated efforts over the past two days, they have been unable to meet any senior officials of the group or make their grievances heard.
This comes as the Taliban have declared Omid-e Sabz Township in western Kabul to be “state-owned” and imposed a monthly rent of 4,000 Afghanis on each room of the houses built by the residents themselves.
