Local sources say that Taliban morality police in Kandahar have arrested 18 teachers on charges of shaving their beards and having hair and clothing that violate the group’s directives.
Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Wednesday, October 7, that the teachers were arrested four days earlier at Seyed Jamaluddin High School in Aino Mina and Ahmad Shahi High School in Kandahar city.
According to the sources, some of the arrested teachers have been released on bail, while several others are still being held in containers belonging to the Taliban’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in the province.
Sources say that Taliban morality police have increased their monitoring of teachers at schools in recent days.
According to the sources, Taliban morality police in Kandahar intend to arrest teachers across the province who fail to comply with the principles set by the group.
The sources also say that teachers who fail to observe the principles of the propagation of virtue and prevention of vice after receiving two warnings will be dismissed from their positions.
