Sources in Kandahar Province say that Zabiullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesperson, has asked journalists in the province to prepare and publish their reports and media content in line with the interests of the group during a meeting with them.
According to sources, the meeting was held on Monday, October 19, with local journalists from Kandahar in attendance.
Sources add that the Taliban deputy governor of Kandahar, officials from the Department of Information and Culture, and spokespersons for Taliban departments also attended the meeting.
According to sources, Taliban officials urged journalists to use their resources to conduct propaganda against groups opposing the Taliban and against Pakistan.
Sources say that several journalists from media outlets in Kabul also attended the meeting.
Sources add that these journalists also pledged to publish content in support of the Taliban.
The meeting comes as the Taliban have imposed increasingly stringent restrictions on media outlets and journalists since returning to power in Afghanistan.
Concerns over media freedom and the independence of journalism in the country continue to persist.
