Local sources in Zabul province say that some Taliban fighters, alongside drug traffickers, are involved in the collection, processing, and smuggling of drugs in the province.

Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Sunday, November 1, that many people in the mountainous and remote areas of Zabul are engaged in collecting and processing these substances.

According to the sources, drug traffickers have established processing facilities in these areas, and the activities are continuing on a large scale.

The sources say that the Taliban do not take action against traffickers who give them a share of the proceeds from drug sales. However, those who refuse to give them a share are arrested and referred to court on charges of drug trafficking.

The sources also say that some members of the Taliban’s Counter-Narcotics Directorate within the Zabul Police Command, as well as several members of the group’s 205th Corps Brigade, are involved in this trade.

According to the sources, the drugs are transported to Iran after being collected and processed at local facilities.
