Taliban health officials in Herat say 16 cases of Congo fever, have been recorded in the province since Eid al-Adha.
According to a report published on Wednesday, June 10, by the Taliban-controlled Bakhtar News Agency, Dr. Amir Nejad, head of response and monitoring at the Taliban Public Health Directorate in Herat, said the cases were linked to the failure to follow health and safety guidelines during the slaughter and handling of livestock over the Eid holiday.
Amir Nejad added that the rise in infections is directly related to warmer weather, noting that the disease is more likely to spread during the hot seasons of the year.
He urged residents to strictly observe hygiene and safety measures when handling animals and animal products.
According to statistics from the Taliban Public Health Directorate in Herat, 114 cases of Congo fever were recorded in the province last year, resulting in 12 deaths.
