The Taliban have announced that the 121-kilometer Wakhan road in Badakhshan, which connects Afghanistan to China through the Wakhan Corridor, has been completed and opened for use.
The Taliban-controlled Bakhtar News Agency reported on Sunday, October 4, that the road stretches from the Broghil area to the border with China and that its construction was carried out in two phases.
According to the report, a total of 365 million Afghanis was spent on the construction of the road.
Hamidullah Fitrat, deputy spokesperson for the Taliban, said the group plans to implement more development projects in remote areas of Afghanistan.
The Wakhan road stretches from the Broghil area to the Chinese border and has been described as the first overland transit route between Afghanistan and China.
Taliban officials say the route could provide opportunities to expand trade, transit and economic relations between Afghanistan, China and countries in the region.
