The Taliban’s Deputy Prime Minister’s Office for Economic Affairs has announced the construction of a 200-bed hospital in Helmand province for 214 million Afghanis.
The Taliban-controlled Bakhtar News Agency reported on Sunday, September 30, that the hospital will be built on an area of 12,000 square metres over a period of approximately two years.
According to the report, the hospital will provide thousands of patients with emergency, surgical, orthopedic, ophthalmological, psychiatric and neurological, pediatric, and obstetric and gynecological services.
The hospital is being constructed at a time when Afghanistan’s healthcare system has faced numerous challenges since the Taliban’s return to power, largely due to a lack of funding and a decline in humanitarian assistance.
The lack of medical facilities and equipment and limited access to healthcare services are among the problems that have worsened in Afghanistan’s health sector over the past five years, increasing the need for well-equipped healthcare facilities.
